Introducing CBS

Congregation Beth Shalom is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Clearwater, Florida. We are honored to be known as a compassionate, welcoming, inclusive and above all, loving, faith - based Jewish community. People describe CBS as “my family” and “comfortable”. Almost 230 families join together in prayer, song, education, service of the heart, and the celebration of life-cycle events in a true feeling of togetherness.

CBS offers a home where you can live your Judaism in a contemporary world, drawing on our ancient teachings and traditions. We do this with present-day understanding to create a dynamic and diverse community, welcoming you and your involvement.

Building community is an ever-present focus for CBS. We believe that for our holy community to be effective and alive, our members need to be at the center, the heart, and the soul. Engagement opportunities are continually being created through varying spiritual, educational and programmatic modalities. A full array of clubs, youth groups and committees round out the Congregation Beth Shalom community.

Lifelong Learning

The Ethel Honigman Religious School of Congregation Beth Shalom provides an open, welcoming, and enthusiastic environment where children and their families learn to practice Judaism in a meaningful and enlivening way. Engaged learning is offered for students Pre-Kindergarten through High School. We meet on most Sundays, Wednesdays and the second Saturday of the month for Shabbat B'Yachad (including Shabbat School) during the school year and some Fridays for special Shabbat events, and during holidays.

Adult Education. At CBS, we appreciate that the process of Jewish learning is never over, and the rewards of continued Jewish study are even greater when we are committed to learning for learning’s sake. It's never too late, nor too early to deepen our Jewish knowledge.

Rabbis Weizman and Upbin, along with a great many of our very own knowledgeable and committed CBS members, as well as guest educators, offer a vast array of engaging adult educational opportunities throughout the year. Through these skilled educators, we are committed to providing educational and cultural learning experiences for our congregants and the community at large.

Prayer & Worship

Shabbat Services at Congregation Beth Shalom are held at 6:30 p.m. every Friday, and at 9:00 a.m. every Sabbath morning. Our spirit-filled services include a blend of traditional and innovative prayers, drawing upon classic liturgical melodies as well as Hassidic style niggunim. The Rabbis often infuse the service with alternative modes of prayer, including chanting and the use of silence.

Weekday Minyan is held on Sunday at 9:00 a.m., Monday and Thursday mornings at 8:30 a.m. followed by a light breakfast and lively Torah-based learning after the service.

Now, as always, Congregation Beth Shalom wants to be your spiritual home. How would you like to be involved?
