Yom HaShoah Commemoration

On Monday evening, April 17th, to begin the commemoration for Yom HaShoah, the Pinellas County Board of Rabbis along with the Jewish Federation of Florida’s Gulf Coast invite the community to participate in an evening candle lighting service and program to remember the victims of the Holocaust. The program will open with a candle lighting ceremony in memory of the 6 Million, reflective readings, and the recitation of the memorial prayers unique to this occasion, led by the local rabbinic body. Following the ceremony, award-winning author and master storyteller, Roslyn Franken, will offer a presentation based on her noted book, “Meant to Be: A True Story of Might, Miracles and Triumph of the Human Spirit"

Join us as author Roslyn Franken presents the inspiring true story of her award-winning book, Meant to Be, about her parents’ amazing triumph over tragedy as two unlikely survivors of WWII. Her mother survived the concentration camps in Nazi Europe including Auschwitz, while her father survived the atomic bomb as a prisoner of war in Japan. Roslyn will reveal how her parents, as two Jewish teens, survived the hardships of their captivity continents apart in the most extraordinary of circumstances to eventually meet, marry and make a beautiful life despite the trauma of their past, against all odds. She will inspire us with the lessons learned from her parents that we can all learn from to live our best lives and help make our world a better place. A movie adaptation of Roslyn’s book is currently in development. Her book is featured in the collections at the prestigious Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Israel, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and is available for purchase at the National Museum of American Jewish Military History and Florida Holocaust Museum of St. PetersburgRoslyn will be available for Q&A and book signing following the presentation.
